GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Certified Training Programme on Sustainability Reporting
FIRST GRI CERTIFIED TRAINING PROGRAMME
ON SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING IN INDIA
New Delhi - 22 - 24 April 2009

CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development, the certified GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) training partner in India conducted a three day 'GRI Certified programme on Sustainability Reporting' in New Delhi on the 22-24 April 2009. The objective of the training programme was to provide the participants an exposure to self evaluation tools for sustainability impacts of an organisation; gain a better understanding of the internationally recognized framework of Sustainability Reporting; obtain insight on ensuring the relevance and quality of the report content; and guidance on adopting Sustainability Reporting as a continual process in the organisation by building on the existing management systems and stakeholder engagement. The focus of the programme were the following:

  • Conceptual introduction and preparation of a GRI reporting process;
  • Methodology to dialogue with stakeholders;
  • Approach to define the contents of the report;
  • Essentials for preparing final report & communication.
The training material used was standardized and certified by GRI, customized to the needs of Indian industry. The participants were senior & middle level executives from leading business organizations of India in the Oil and Gas, Pharmaceutical, Beverage, FMCG, Retail, Automobile sectors from Corporate Affairs and Communication, Corporate Planning, Finance, Environment - Health and Safety and Corporate Social Responsibility departments. There were many participants from the consulting organizations working in the areas of corporate communication and strategic advises. The participants learnt through lectures and interactive session through focused group discussions, group exercise and local and international trends and case stories.

Centre has successfully conducted similar certified programme in Mumbai from 1-3 July 2009 & got good participation from leading business organisations of India in the Beverage, Manufacturing, FMCG, Infrastructure, Electric Utility, Automobile sectors & consulting organisations in areas of Corporate Sustainability Management;

Upcoming Programmes

The Centre will be running similar certified programmes in Mumbai (1-3 July and Hyderabad (19-21 August) to build capacity of Indian industry in the areas of Sustainability Reporting as a tool to identify, define, and monitor their, economic, environmental and social performance with the process elements of stakeholder accountability.
